Amberg Engineering at the Geomechanics Colloquium 2026
On 8–9 October 2026, geomechanics experts from academia, engineering and industry gathered in Salzburg, Austria, for the Geomechanics Colloquium 2026, one of the leading international events in the field. The conference provided a valuable platform for exchanging knowledge, discussing technical challenges and sharing practical experience from major infrastructure projects.
Amberg Engineering was represented at this year's event, with our colleagues participating in technical discussions and contributing to the conference programme through the co-authorship of the paper “Risk Management and TBM Performance Analysis: Insights from the Austrian Section of the Brenner Base Tunnel.”
The paper, jointly authored by Walter Fahrnberger (Müller + Hereth – Ingenieurbüro für Tunnel- und Felsbau GmbH), David Marini, Romed Insam and Wolfgang Holzer (Brenner Basistunnel BBT SE), Kurt Mair am Tinkhof (Amberg Engineering) and Markus Scheuringer (Lombardi Engineering Group), presents valuable insights and practical experience gained from one of Europe's most significant underground infrastructure projects. It highlights the importance of risk management and TBM performance analysis in addressing the complex challenges of large-scale tunnelling projects.
We congratulate our colleague Kurt Mair am Tinkhof and all co-authors on their contribution to the conference and their commitment to sharing technical knowledge with the international geomechanics community.
The Geomechanics Colloquium 2026 offered an excellent opportunity to connect with industry professionals, exchange experiences and explore current developments in underground engineering. We thank the organisers and all participants for the insightful discussions and successful event in Salzburg.
