INSIGHTS FROM OUR EXPERTS: A Tunnel in a Sliding Slope
In their latest article published in Geomechanics and Tunnelling, our colleagues Jasmin Amberg and Gerd Wieland, together with Benno Ring, explore the geological and geotechnical challenges of the Tunnel Riedberg and the engineering solutions developed to manage these demanding conditions.
The project required a detailed understanding of ground behaviour, tunnel–slope interaction and deformation. Through careful analysis, monitoring and adapted construction approaches, the team addressed the challenges of tunnelling in an actively moving slope.
The article offers valuable insights into the practical application of geotechnical and tunnelling expertise and demonstrates how a close understanding of ground conditions can support safe and effective construction.
