Wirtschaftsforum: Interview with Laurence Delplace

The Future Lies Underground

In a recent interview with Wirtschaftsforum, Laurence Delplace, CEO of Amberg Engineering, discusses the future of tunnelling, digital technologies and the growing potential of underground infrastructure.

The demands placed on underground infrastructure are changing. Alongside the construction of new tunnels, the inspection, maintenance and long-term management of existing infrastructure are becoming increasingly important. Digitalisation is opening up new possibilities in this area: digital twins, automated monitoring and artificial intelligence can support engineers in monitoring infrastructure more efficiently and planning maintenance proactively.

At the same time, Amberg Engineering is looking beyond traditional tunnelling. New applications of underground space from geothermal energy and mining to underground energy systems and data centres offer significant potential for the future.

In the interview, Laurence Delplace also explains why specialisation, technical excellence and supporting infrastructure throughout its entire lifecycle will remain key priorities for Amberg Engineering.

Her vision can be summed up simply: The future lies underground.
