TELT LYON TURIN

France

Our team is making headway.

This February marked a significant milestone with the drilling of the Modane bypass road's tunnel. This track, 1.6 kilometres long, will play a crucial role as an ancillary structure for excavating the cross-border section of the Lyon-Turin project. It will be used for operational sites CO5, the Mont-Cenis base tunnel, and site CO11, which is responsible for material management on all TELT sites. Amberg has been participating in both sites for several years as the lead contractor within the ALLTI consortium, which is composed of AE, WSP-BG, Lombardi, Arcadis, and MST.

The tunnel is 200 meters long, excavated using traditional methods, and will allow for the evacuation of excavation materials away from the currently operational rail lines connecting France and Italy.

EINSTEIN TELESCOPE

Belgium / Germany / Netherlands

In collaboration with TEC (Tunnel Engineering Consultant) and partners Lombardi and TRACTEBEL, Amberg Engineering is conducting a feasibility study for the groundbreaking Einstein Telescope. As Europe's most advanced observatory for gravitational waves, this unique underground telescope promises to unveil new insights into the universe's history.

The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany are jointly exploring the possibility of hosting this world-class observatory in South Limburg. Tasked with the technical feasibility study on behalf of the Dutch National Institute for Subatomic Physics Nikhef (Nationaal instituut voor subatomaire fysica), the joint venture is poised to make significant strides in advancing scientific understanding.

ALBULA TUNNEL

New tunnel completed after decade-long construction

On June 8th, 2024, the Albula Tunnel II was officially opened after 10 years of construction. The railway tunnel connects the communities of Bergün and Bever and replaces the over 100-year-old original tunnel, which is now being converted into a safety tunnel. The total project costs amount to 407 million francs.

Amberg Engineering has been involved in the project very closely as overall construction management and client representative of Rhb since 2010. The planning and construction of the Albula Tunnel II was a major but beautiful challenge for everyone involved. We can continue to support the project until and including the commissioning of the safety tunnel.

As a guest of honour, Federal Councilor Albert Rösti opened the celebrations, which were attended by many guests from the construction and railway industries as well as politics, business and tourism sectors.

A big thank you to the entire project team for their work so far, and good luck with future progress!
