St. Barbara Day
Today, 4 December, we celebrate St. Barbara's Day. Saint Barbara is considered the patron saint of miners and tunnel builders. That is why today is a special day for everyone who works underground, including us.
The story of Saint Barbara is both tragic and hopeful: tortured and betrayed by her own father because of her "false" beliefs, she remained steadfast. On her way to prison, she picked up a branch and placed it in a vessel of water. The Barbara branch, named after her, blossomed on the winter day she was beheaded by her father. The branch, which begins to bloom in the middle of winter, has since come to symbolise confidence, light and new life.
Barbara Day is also a tradition at Amberg Engineering – as a sign of appreciation for all those who shape the world underground with their knowledge, courage and team spirit.
