International Women's Day

Inspire inclusion!

Our CEO Laurence Delplace on How do more women in senior leadership positions make a difference in today’s society?

Diversity in leadership is good in politics and in business, as it allows for different viewpoints which enable better problem solving, and access to a wide array of knowledge and industry insights. But more than anything, diversity is vital for being more representative of the needs society faces. The problems of politics and markets would be addressed in a much better way. In other words, to represent reality, leadership should mirror society.

Not only does diversity in decision making allow all concerned to better address problems with a more representative understanding of what society needs, but it boosts a more complete range of skills for leadership including emotional intelligence, self-awareness, humility, and authenticity. The results of these skills are needed now more than ever in our modern society that is asking for more feedback, a better work-life balance, and a relational partnership between employees and managers. These results can be achieved through the presence of more women in senior leadership positions.

In a corporate environment, this leads to higher employee retention because of job satisfaction, which again results in better decision making and increased productivity. This is important for long lasting business relations and translates into better business. In today's business, building relationships leads to mutually beneficial situations.

When more women reach senior leadership positions, it will inspire women and give them the confidence that they need to achieve their dreams and thus ultimately accelerate the change in mentality towards a positive impact on our society.

Being a woman in a predominantly male-dominated industry has not always been easy. At first, I had to fight for recognition as an engineer, and then as a manager. But it was not just passion that kept me going. I had the chance to meet and work for some exceptional and inspiring personalities that kept pushing me forward and inspiring me.

These are the experiences that brought me to where I am today and made me who I am – a fierce competitor, thriving on challenges, and a passionate, dedicated, and resilient worker.

Having been empowered by several amazing women in my life, I truly understand the importance of being inspired.

With that in mind for this year's international womens theme: inspire inclusion
